A Lockheed Martin F-16C fighter jet from the Greek Air Force made an emergency landing this Thursday (9) at Dionysios Solomos International Airport, in Zakynthos, Greece, after the aircraft’s systems indicated a possible fire during flight.
The incident occurred around midday local time during a scheduled training mission in the Ionian Sea region. According to initial information, the pilot received an onboard alert and immediately activated safety procedures, contacting ground authorities and requesting clearance for a priority approach to the island’s airport.
As the aircraft approached, airport ground teams were placed on standby. After landing, fire was reported in the aircraft area, but the situation was quickly brought under control by the airport’s emergency services.
The pilot was not injured and is in good health. The aircraft will be inspected by a specialized technical team from the Greek Air Force, which is expected to determine whether there was an actual fire outbreak or whether the alert was caused by a fault in the indication system.
