Protests erupt in India’s West Bengal over rape and murder of minor
Protests broke out in India's eastern West Bengal state after the rape and murder of a minor girl, with the state's former chief Mamata Banerjee leading demonstrations in Baruipur, demanding justice for the deceased victim. The victim, a 11-year-old girl, went missing and was later found dead in a pond, triggering outrage. Following the incident, which took place on Sunday (July 5), one of the prime suspects of the case was killed after he tried to snatch a police personnel's weapon and flee when he was taken to the pond to recreate the crime scene.
