ಕೊಯಮತ್ತೂರು ಬಳಿಯ ಪೊಲ್ಲಾಚಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾನದ ಮೊದಲ ಮಾದಕ ದ್ರವ್ಯ ವಿರೋಧಿ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನವನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅಣ್ಣಾಮಲೈ, ತಾವು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯವಾದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಆದರೆ, ಹೊರಬಂದಾಗ, ತಮ್ಮ ಜಾತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಬಾರಿಯೂ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸುವ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.


Speaking at his foundation's first anti-drug conference near Pollachi in Coimbatore district, BJP leader K. Annamalai said that he is a proud nationalist and an Indian first. He added that whenever he steps out of his home, he leaves his caste and religion behind, emphasizing that there is no need to constantly display or highlight one's religious identity.
His remarks have drawn attention for stressing national identity, social harmony, and unity while addressing a public gathering focused on tackling drug abuse.
