Rona Jaffe's 1982 made for TV movie Mazes And Monsters ('82) features Tom Hanks in his first leading role. The story shows a rare look into the lives of tabletop roleplaying gamers. Often dealing with sword & sorcery concepts, dungeons, heroes and treasure hunts, the games became popular in the mid 1970's. Actress Wendy Crewson plays Kate in this & I couldn't help but note her brief resemblances to actress Kim Cattrall throughout the course of the film. Hanks later acted with Cattrall in Brian De Palma's 1990 adaptation of Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire Of The Vanities. There may be a Star Trek link here also, Wendy Crewson was cast as an admiral in the Star Trek Discovery TV series (2017-2024) but her character was recast before . Kim Cattrall played a Vulcan in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country ('91).
