Crowds dive into Croatia's underwater museum to cool off
Tourists sought relief from Europe's summer heatwave by diving into Croatia's underwater museum near Trogir on Friday (July 17), exploring statues and sculptures submerged in the cooler waters. The museum features the world's only underwater Way of the Cross, with life-sized religious sculptures positioned at depths of 3.5 to 4 meters and a towering 7-meter Jesus Christ statue placed at 8-9 metres depth. The shallow depths make the museum accessible to beginners and non-swimmers who can explore using snorkelling equipment rather than diving tanks. International visitors found the underwater museum to be the perfect solution for escaping scorching temperatures. A succession of heatwaves across Europe this year have already broken some temperature records, fuelled wildfires and according to reports have led to thousands of so-called excess deaths.
