Norway has unveiled a new national memorial in Oslo to honour the 77 people killed in the country's deadliest peacetime terrorist attack, just days before the tragedy's 15th anniversary. The memorial, titled Upholding, stands near the site of the 2011 bombing and features a towering stone mosaic of a bird native to Utøya island, where most of the victims, many of them teenagers, lost their lives. Created by artist Matias Faldbakken, the artwork is intended not only to remember those who were killed but also to reinforce democratic values and reject the extremist ideology behind the attack. Survivors, victims' families, Norway's Crown Prince Haakon, and government leaders attended the unveiling ceremony. The names of all 77 victims are engraved on the memorial, ensuring their stories remain part of the nation's collective memory while serving as a lasting reminder of resilience, unity, and the importance of defending democracy.
