China said Philippine personnel aboard the BRP Sierra Madre provoked the latest confrontation near Ayungin Shoal on July 20, claiming two Philippine rubber boats ignored warnings, rammed a China Coast Guard patrol boat, and attacked Chinese personnel.
The Chinese Embassy in Manila released a video of the incident and urged the Philippines to stop what it called "rights violations and provocations." The Armed Forces of the Philippines, however, said a Navy officer was injured after allegedly being struck by China Coast Guard personnel and condemned the encounter as another act of aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
