A wildfire in the Var department of southern France burns through 500 hectares and continues to spread in the direction of the nearby commune of Cotignac, authorities confirmed on July 21, 2026. The blaze, which broke out east of Ponteves earlier in the day, resulted in six homes being affected, with two destroyed. More than 100 aerial drops were carried out by firefighting aircraft to contain the blaze. Authorities said they had deployed 600 firefighters, 200 vehicles, and several firefighting aircraft, including 12 planes and four helicopters, to combat the flames. No fatalities were reported.
