5 hydrating foods and drinks that may help support your body’s fluid balance and kidney function.
Your kidneys help filter waste and balance fluids in the body. When your body does not get enough fluids, urine can become more concentrated, and dehydration may cause signs like thirst, dry mouth, tiredness, or darker urine.
Water is still the main choice for hydration. But water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumber, and celery can also contribute to daily fluid intake. Lemon water and coconut water may also add fluids, but people with kidney disease, heart disease, fluid restrictions, or potassium restrictions should ask a healthcare professional first.
