Romania to shut down one nuclear power reactor because of low Danube river levels

Romania will protectively shut down one of its two nuclear power reactors on the Danube river from Tuesday to prevent damage to its cooling systems as river levels fell to their lowest in three decades, the energy ministry said on Monday

State-owned nuclear power producer Nuclearelectrica has two 706 megawatt reactors, accounting for roughly a fifth of Romania's power production.

The ministry said peak power consumption this week was estimated at 7,300 MW while domestic production was at up to 4,300 MW, with the difference to be imported.
