A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near the southern Japanese city of Kumamoto, killing at least 13 people as rescuers race against time to find survivors trapped beneath the rubble.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said rescue operations remain underway, with authorities deploying all available resources to save as many lives as possible.
