लोकसभा में कांग्रेस सांसद दीपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा ने केंद्र सरकार पर तीखा हमला बोलते हुए कहा कि पेपर लीक से जुड़ा यह विधेयक सरकार की इच्छा से नहीं, बल्कि बढ़ते जनदबाव के कारण लाया गया है। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि सरकार युवाओं और छात्रों की आवाज दबाना चाहती थी, लेकिन जब विरोध तेज हुआ और सरकार की छवि पर असर पड़ा, तब आनन-फानन में बिल पेश किया गया। हुड्डा ने फास्ट ट्रैक कोर्ट, सीबीआई जांच और सजा बढ़ाने जैसे प्रावधानों पर सवाल उठाते हुए इन्हें केवल दिखावटी कदम बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि कानून तभी प्रभावी होगा जब जवाबदेही तय होगी। अपने भाषण में उन्होंने युवाओं के शांतिपूर्ण और रचनात्मक आंदोलन की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि नई पीढ़ी ने संविधान और लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों के साथ अपनी बात रखी। Gen-Z के अंदाज का जिक्र करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि युवा बेहद अनोखे और रचनात्मक तरीके से इस्तीफे की मांग कर रहे थे, जो लोकतंत्र में जागरूक नागरिकों की नई पहचान है।
