Researchers from a prominent university and a national scientific institution in China have introduced a novel memristor-based microchip that can reconstruct intricate brain surfaces in less than 10 milliseconds, nearing the processing capabilities of the human brain. Fabricated using a 40-nanometer technology, this chip operates between 3.82 and 36.27 times quicker than the top ASIC devices while consuming up to 24.73 times less energy. It also demonstrated a remarkable 478.18-fold enhancement in speed over an NVIDIA A100 GPU during brain reconstruction tasks. This significant advancement could pave the way for breakthroughs in medical imaging, brain-computer interactions, and surgical navigation.
