A comprehensive clinical trial conducted across the United States has discovered that a specially formulated THC-CBD treatment substantially alleviates agitation among individuals with advanced dementia. The 12-week LiBBY trial involved 120 participants eligible for hospice care from 10 different medical centers, with close to 90% of those receiving treatment demonstrating notable improvement. After two weeks, 83.9% of patients treated with the cannabinoid therapy showed progress, compared to just 30.5% in the placebo cohort. Researchers highlight that the formulation evaluated is distinct from commercial cannabis offerings and advocate for larger studies to inform future dementia management strategies.
