Night falls in quake-hit Japanese city as thousands remain without power
Thousands in the quake-hit Japanese city of Uki remained without power as night fell on Thursday (July 30). More than 2,000 households were still without power, two days since the quake hit Kumamoto prefecture, killing at least 25 people. Power outages and scorching temperatures forced many residents to spend the night without air conditioning or to take refuge in their cars. A Kyushu Electric Power representative said the company was aiming to restore power by Friday (July 31) evening.
