Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called the wrongdoing exposed in the Tabung Haji inquiry a betrayal of trust, saying a loss-making body could not justify rewarding its staff.
Responding to reports that Tabung Haji paid bonuses of up to 13 months' salary, Anwar said he was personally upset by the findings, describing the abuse of a religious institution by those entrusted to manage it as "treachery".
He urged the public to read and debate the report, stressing that the issue transcended politics and should not be viewed through the lens of the state election.
