Romulus and Remus are legendary twin brothers from ancient Roman mythology. According to the story, they were abandoned as babies and rescued by a she-wolf who cared for them. When they grew up, the brothers decided to build a new city. A disagreement led to Romulus becoming the founder—and namesake—of Rome in 753 BCE. Although the tale is a myth, it shows how the Romans explained their city’s beginnings and celebrated bravery, strength, and leadership.
