Europe is facing one of its most critical wildfire seasons, driven by intense heat and drought that are igniting fires in various well-known tourist locales. Thousands of locals and visitors have been evacuated from Crete, Greece, while authorities in France have advised tourists to steer clear of the Gironde area after over 42,000 hectares have been scorched. In recent days, approximately 220,000 individuals have also been evacuated throughout France, as heat warnings and wildfire hazards persist in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and certain regions of the UK. Officials are actively assessing the situation as forecasts indicate that the hot weather will extend the risk of wildfires.
