असम इस समय भीषण बाढ़ की त्रासदी से जूझ रहा है, जिसने लाखों लोगों का जीवन अस्त-व्यस्त कर दिया है। सरकारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार, इस आपदा में अब तक 80 लोगों की जान जा चुकी है, जबकि लगभग 6 लाख लोग बेघर हो गए हैं। चराइदेव और शिवसागर जैसे जिले सबसे अधिक प्रभावित हैं, जहां सैकड़ों गांव जलमग्न हैं और हजारों परिवारों ने अपने घर, खेती और आजीविका खो दी है। बाढ़ का असर केवल इंसानों तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान समेत कई इलाकों में वन्यजीवों और मवेशियों को भी भारी नुकसान पहुंचा है। सेना, एनडीआरएफ, एसडीआरएफ और प्रशासन राहत एवं बचाव कार्य में जुटे हैं तथा हजारों लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों तक पहुंचाया गया है। इस बीच बाढ़ नियंत्रण, तटबंधों की स्थिति और सरकार के पुराने वादों को लेकर राजनीतिक बहस भी तेज हो गई है। सबसे बड़ा सवाल यही है कि आखिर हर साल असम को ऐसी भयावह बाढ़ का सामना क्यों करना पड़ता है और इसका स्थायी समाधान कब निकलेगा।
