Imagine walking to school shoe-less and carrying your sandals in your hand every single day! This is the reality for students at Pradmic Vidyale Jaitiya, a government school in Gaya district. Established in 1987, this school has been waiting for a proper road for nearly 40 years.
Children and teachers must trek nearly 500 meters through fields, thorny bushes, and muddy paths to reach their classrooms. This arduous journey is fraught with the constant danger of falling, especially during the monsoon season when the path becomes a slippery, muddy mess. Many students, often from Mahadalit families, arrive with soiled clothes and sometimes without their footwear at all, highlighting the extreme difficulties they face just to get an education.
Despite 108 students being enrolled, only 50-60 can make it to school daily due to the lack of a motorable road. The students themselves share their struggles, emphasizing how they carry their shoes and get them dirty, or even lose them, on the way. Will the government finally build a road to ensure these dedicated students can attend school without such immense hardship?
