On August 6, 1945, naval engineer Tsutomu Yamaguchi was preparing to leave Hiroshima when the first atomic bomb dropped. Despite severe burns and burst eardrums, he survived, crawled to a train station, and traveled 200 miles back home to Nagasaki.
Just three days later, on August 9, while sitting in his supervisor's office explaining the destruction of Hiroshima, the second atomic bomb was dropped right over Nagasaki.
This is the incredible, harrowing true story of the only man officially recognized by the Japanese government as a survivor of both atomic blasts—and his lifelong mission to ensure it never happens again.
