This wasn't an isolated incident; during the late 1970s and 80s, California waged a literal war on skateboarding. From "sidewalk surfing" to the "Pool Culture" of the 70s, the sport faced a massive backlash from city officials and a devastating insurance crisis that forced many legendary parks to close their gates forever.
