The Mexican-American War took place from 1846 to 1848 between the United States and Mexico. The war began after the U.S. annexed Texas, which Mexico still claimed as its land. Fighting spread across the Southwest, from Texas to California. The war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which gave the United States a large area of land, including California, Arizona, and New Mexico.
