A milestone recorded during Exercise Pitch Black 26 highlights growing interoperability between air-to-air refuelling aircraft from different countries
A new milestone in multinational air operations was recorded during Exercise Pitch Black 26. For the first time, a Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft successfully conducted an in-flight refuelling of a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) KC-30A.
The operation stands out because it brought together two platforms specifically designed for air-to-air refuelling. The Australian KC-30A normally extends the range and endurance of other aircraft, but in this case it operated as the receiving aircraft.
