President Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course was placed under heightened security, with U.S. Army AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air-defense systems and AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel radar deployed near the property.
The Avenger is a short-range air-defense system capable of responding to threats such as drones, low-flying aircraft and certain cruise missiles. The Sentinel radar provides 360-degree surveillance and can detect and track airborne threats for air-defense units.
The systems were reportedly visible at Bedminster from at least August 1 and remained in place during the weekend of Trump’s golf activities. Trump even joked about missiles and drones during an interaction with U.S. service members, prompting an Army colonel to respond that they had the situation covered.
The heightened protection comes amid broader security concerns surrounding the president and reported threats linked to the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict. Bedminster was also subject to temporary flight restrictions, with NORAD F-16 fighter jets intercepting civilian aircraft that entered the restricted airspace.
