Polish village puts faith in Europe's tallest Virgin Mary statue
Towering over farmlands around the Polish village of Konotopie, Europe’s tallest statue of the Virgin Mary is set to be consecrated this Aug. 15, 2026. Rising to 55 meters in height, the statue was financed by the multimillionaire Roman Karkosik to the tune of around 100 million zlotys (23.1 million euros), and is Poland’s latest monumental landmark, after the tallest Christ in the world in Swiebodzin, and the tallest Pope John Paul II, inaugurated in 2013 in Czestochowa. 'It’s magnificent,' says Wioletta Rzepinska, one of many visiting the statue ahead of its blessing on Assumption Day.
