मुंबई के घाटकोपर-पश्चिम के अशोकनगर और चिराग नगर इलाके में बुधवार तड़के भारी बारिश के बीच दर्दनाक भूस्खलन हुआ। करीब 3 बजे से 3:48 बजे के बीच पहाड़ी का बड़ा हिस्सा खिसककर गौशिया चॉल और नवाज़ चॉल की कई झोपड़ियों पर जा गिरा। हादसे में कई लोगों की मौत और कई के घायल होने की खबर है, जबकि कुछ लोगों के मलबे में फंसे होने की आशंका है। सूचना मिलते ही मुंबई फायर ब्रिगेड, पुलिस, एंबुलेंस और NDRF की टीमें मौके पर पहुंचीं और राहत-बचाव अभियान शुरू किया। संकरी गलियों के कारण भारी मशीनों को घटनास्थल तक पहुंचाने में मुश्किलें आईं। लगातार बारिश के चलते मिट्टी और पहाड़ी के और खिसकने का खतरा बना हुआ है। प्रशासन ने बचाव कार्य तेज कर दिया है। इस हादसे ने मुंबई में मानसून के दौरान पहाड़ी और संवेदनशील इलाकों में रहने वाले लोगों की सुरक्षा पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं।
A tragic landslide struck Mumbai’s Ghatkopar-West area early Wednesday morning amid heavy rainfall. Between around 3:00 and 3:48 AM, a large section of a hillside collapsed onto several huts at Gaushiya Chawl and Nawaz Chawl in the Ashok Nagar-Chirag Nagar area. Several people have reportedly lost their lives, while others were injured and some are feared trapped under the debris. Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, ambulances and NDRF teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The narrow lanes made it difficult for heavy machinery to reach the affected area, forcing rescue teams to rely on smaller equipment and manual efforts
