Travel Industry Eyes Cooler Destinations as Europe Heats Up

Simon Calder, travel broadcaster and commentator, spoke to CGTN Europe about TUI’s outlook and the wider state of the travel industry.
He said TUI remains optimistic, supported by strong demand for cruises, despite losses linked to ships trapped in the Gulf of Hormuz. Calder added that the travel industry is also facing wider challenges, including geopolitical conflicts, extreme weather and high jet fuel prices.
On emerging travel trends, he suggested that as Europe adapts to hotter summers, more travellers may start looking to cooler destinations, such as the Baltic Sea region. Speaking from Spain, where he is covering the solar eclipse, Calder also said the event is expected to boost local businesses by bringing in around half a million additional tourists
