The alleged ‘purification’ ritual conducted after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, on August 8 has now reached the Rajya Sabha. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge described the incident as humiliating, saying that he was treated like an untouchable. He said that he belongs to a Scheduled Caste and was deeply hurt by such treatment. Kharge questioned whether such incidents have any place in a democracy governed by the Constitution. Responding to the issue, Union Minister and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, J.P. Nadda, termed the incident unfortunate and assured that it would be investigated. He clarified that the BJP does not support such activities and condemned the incident.
उत्तराखंड के हल्द्वानी में 8 अगस्त को कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे की रैली के बाद कथित ‘शुद्धिकरण’ अनुष्ठान का मामला राज्यसभा तक पहुंच गया। नेता प्रतिपक्ष खरगे ने इसे अपने लिए अपमानजनक बताते हुए कहा कि उनके साथ अछूत जैसा व्यवहार किया गया। उन्होंने कहा कि वह अनुसूचित जाति से आते हैं और ऐसे व्यवहार से बेहद आहत हैं। खरगे ने सवाल उठाया कि क्या लोकतंत्र और संविधान में ऐसी घटनाओं की कोई जगह है। मामले पर केंद्रीय मंत्री और राज्यसभा में सदन के नेता जेपी नड्डा ने घटना को दुखद बताया और जांच का भरोसा दिया। उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि बीजेपी ऐसी गतिविधियों का समर्थन नहीं करती और इसकी निंदा करती है। कांग्रेस सांसद कुमारी शैलजा ने भी घटना को समानता और संवैधानिक मूल्यों का उल्लंघन बताते हुए बीजेपी और आरएसएस की विचारधारा पर सवाल उठाए। विवाद के बीच अब जांच और आगे की कार्रवाई पर सभी की नजरें हैं।
