President Trump claimed on social media that the United States has total control of the Strait of Hormuz. He wrote "I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT!" and described the US naval blockade as "A WALL OF STEEL." He added that "Nobody else, only us" controls the Strait, and said, "At some point, maybe they'll do something and then they get blown away."
Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority disputed the claim, stating that the Strait remains blocked and will not reopen until Iran's conditions are accepted. Iran published six demands for reopening the waterway: the US ceasing all threats against Iran, a permanent end to fighting in the region, withdrawal of US naval and air forces, an end to the blockade, the lifting of sanctions, and reparations. The US military fired on a Panama-flagged ship, the Vela Nova, that it said tried to run the blockade, hitting it with a missile from a helicopter off the coast of Oman.
