Part 1 - Intro -1988 Fred Olen Ray sci-fi comedy The Phantom Empire may contain easter egg references to Return Of The Jedi ('83) (Star Wars) alien Jabba The Hutt & additionally Spaceballs ('87) villains Pizza The Hutt & Vinnie.
- I observed similarly framed scenes between "Empire" & the intro of Episode VI.
- At 45 minutes, 38 seconds the mutants kidnap Susan Stokey's character (Denae Chambers) and proceed to roast her on a spit.
- A rotisserie / spit can be seen behind Jabba in his court in Return Of The Jedi.
- At 10 min, 25 sec in "Empire" Wildsmith, Hagen & Chambers stand outside the compound of Russ Tamblyn's character.
- I thought this scene reminiscent of the droids R2-D2 & C-3PO trying to gain entry into Jabba's palace in Star Wars.
- A large portion of The Phantom Empire takes place in an underground cave complex.
- Again, I thought of the cavernous entrance to Jabba's stronghold in "Jedi".
- Actor Robert Quarry (Professor Strock) played a crime boss in 1974 horror film Sugar Hill. Don Pedro Colley had a role in this as spirit Baron Samedi. He also acted in dystopian sci-fi film THX 1138. This was directorial debut of Star Wars creator George Lucas.
