Washington’s National World War II Memorial was vandalized Thursday in a shocking attack on a sacred symbol of American sacrifice. The iconic fountain was filled with bubbly soap, while red graffiti reading “Clean hands Dirty $.” was splashed across the memorial. The Interior Department called the act an “utter disgrace,” as US Park Police launched an investigation. Dedicated in 2004, the memorial honors roughly 16 million Americans who served in World War II, including more than 400,000 who died. President Donald Trump condemned the vandalism as an insult to heroes, saying authorities were “on their trail!” He demanded swift justice.
