The U.S. is rushing to strengthen the UAE’s missile defenses as Washington faces pressure to replenish weapons stocks. The Missile Defense Agency has awarded Lockheed Martin a $211.4 million contract for additional Configuration 3 THAAD launchers for the UAE. The number of launchers remains undisclosed, while production is scheduled from August 2026 through January 2031. The deal pushes the underlying Foreign Military Sales agreement beyond $1.05 billion. THAAD is designed to intercept short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles during their terminal phase. The contract comes amid intense missile warfare and growing demands on U.S. and allied air-defense systems across the Middle East.
