Virginia State University was placed under lockdown after a shooting near the campus Quad Annexes early August 15, 2026. The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Boisseau Street and Third Avenue in Chesterfield County. Police said multiple suspects were involved, while several people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including graze wounds. Victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment. VSU and Chesterfield County police responded quickly, ordering students and campus residents to shelter in place as investigators secured the area and searched for suspects.
