The crisis aboard America’s warships may extend far beyond the USS Abraham Lincoln. Families and service members have described shortages, exhaustion, broken systems and severe strain during prolonged deployments. On the USS Benfold, a major engineering casualty reportedly caused a complete power loss lasting four days. During the outage, the destroyer reportedly faced limited potable water and lost access to its galley, restrooms and climate control. The USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group provided meals and other support before Benfold reached Subic Bay for repairs. The episode is raising fresh questions about whether U.S. warships and their crews are being pushed beyond their limits.
