Dan Bilzerian’s bid for Congress has collapsed as Republican incumbent Randy Fine defeats the social media star in Florida’s 6th Congressional District primary. Fine won nearly 57 percent of the vote, while Bilzerian finished a distant second with around 19 percent, despite spending roughly $1 million of his own money and leveraging his massive Instagram following.
The bitter primary was dominated by inflammatory rhetoric, personal attacks and accusations of antisemitism and anti-Islam rhetoric. Bilzerian repeatedly attacked Fine over his Jewish identity and support for Israel, drawing condemnation from both Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
The result highlights the limits of social media fame in electoral politics, showing that millions of followers do not necessarily translate into votes when faced with an established political organization, incumbency and strong party backing.
