UN 'expresses serious concern' over US sanctions on ICC officials
The United Nations on Wednesday (August 19) said U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was seriously concerned by US sanctions imposed on International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane and senior trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Guterres was also concerned about continuing U.S. designations of other ICC employees. Dujarric said Guterres respected the court’s work despite the institutions’ separate roles and distinct mandates.
