Former Congress Member of Parliament and leader Sajjan Kumar has passed away at the age of 80 while serving life imprisonment in Tihar Jail. Hospital sources from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital confirmed that he was declared brought dead after being brought unconscious from jail. Kumar was serving multiple life sentences following his conviction for murder, rioting, and arson in cases arising out of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He had previously filed court petitions seeking bail due to severe health conditions, but medical committees advised that hospitalization was unnecessary. A former three-time Lok Sabha MP from Outer Delhi who resigned from the party after his conviction, he was also facing additional ongoing trials.
