Sophie Cunningham turned a hostile night in Toronto into a memorable performance, responding to a chorus of boos with confidence and composure.
The Indiana Fever guard was booed whenever she touched the ball during the team’s 101–95 victory over the Toronto Tempo. Cunningham answered by making all three of her three-point attempts and helping Indiana secure the win.
Rather than criticize the crowd afterward, she praised the atmosphere and embraced the competitive energy.
Cunningham said, “I want to shout out the Tempo crowd and the city. We've had so much fun.” She added, “The crowd was absolutely amazing. I think that’s what sports is all about. You’re going to get boos and you’re going to get cheers.”
After the final buzzer, she also reflected on the future and young athletes, saying, “The Big Three are going to do their thing every night.” She continued, “I'm just gonna come, have some fun,” while saying she hoped to “inspire some young girls.”
