The USS Abraham Lincoln is finally heading home after a grueling 272-day deployment, one of the longest aircraft-carrier deployments in recent U.S. Navy history.
The Nimitz-class carrier left San Diego in November 2025 for what was expected to be a routine deployment, but its mission changed dramatically as tensions with Iran escalated and the U.S. became involved in sustained military operations.
The carrier spent more than 200 consecutive days at sea without a port call, while its sailors and Marines supported thousands of aircraft sorties and operations connected to the Iran conflict.
Reports from families, sailors and lawmakers also raised concerns about crew exhaustion, supply shortages, disrupted mail and laundry services, food availability, plumbing problems and morale during the extended deployment.
The Navy has disputed some of the more serious claims and emphasized the crew’s resilience and continued access to essential supplies and services.
Now, with the USS George Washington taking over its regional mission, the USS Abraham Lincoln has begun its long journey back to San Diego.
