A waterspout turned tornado formed in Atlantic Beach, New York on Thursday (August 20), causing damage off the Long Island coast. An eyewitness video showed a spout forming near the shoreline, before dissolving shortly after landfall, local media reported. The National Weather Service said a waterspout turned into a tornado when it came ashore at Atlantic Beach on August 20, according to local media. The powerful winds damaged a local beach club, tearing parts of the club and destroying cabanas. The National Weather Service had briefly issued a tornado warning for parts of Queens County and Nassau County on Thursday.
