NASA Satellites and AI Revolutionize Wildfire Monitoring

2026-08-21 1 Dailymotion

Advanced satellite systems and artificial intelligence are enabling firefighters across the United States to identify wildfires at an earlier stage. FireSat initiated its first trio of satellites in July, as part of a strategic expansion to a 50-satellite network aimed at detecting fires as minor as a beach bonfire, with the goal of surveying every location on the planet approximately every 20 minutes. On the ground, Pano AI has deployed over 1,400 cameras in 17 states, with California's extensive network of more than 1,200 cameras now identifying around half of all wildfires prior to 911 notifications. This technology seeks to provide emergency crews with additional time to manage and control fires before they escalate.
