Why is Avengers: Endgame Encore four minutes longer—and did Marvel add Doctor Doom to Avengers: Endgame?
AMC Theatres lists Avengers: Endgame Encore at 185 minutes, four minutes longer than the 181-minute 2019 theatrical cut. Disney has announced a custom introduction, fresh footage and a special end tag for the premium presentation. Director Joe Russo says the added material is set within the Avengers: Doomsday story and turns Endgame Encore into a bridge between the two movies.
However, Marvel has not confirmed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom appears in Endgame Encore, that Tony Stark’s death has been changed or that the original ending has been rewritten.
In this video, we separate confirmed information from theories and explain:
Why Avengers: Endgame Encore is 185 minutes
What could be inside the four additional minutes
Whether the new material is one scene or several additions
What the custom introduction and special end tag mean
How Endgame Encore connects to Avengers: Doomsday
Whether Doctor Doom could appear in the new footage
Why the final Iron Man hammering sound has returned to the discussion
Whether Steve Rogers, Loki or the Time Heist could be involved
What Marvel has confirmed—and what remains speculation
Why is Avengers: Endgame Encore longer?
The original theatrical version of Avengers: Endgame runs for approximately 181 minutes. The new AMC listing gives Endgame Encore a 185-minute runtime. That four-minute difference does not prove Marvel added one uninterrupted four-minute Doctor Doom scene.
The extra time may be divided between the custom introduction, footage inserted into the film and the special end tag. Until Marvel reveals the finished presentation, claims describing an exact Doom scene should be treated as theories rather than confirmed spoilers.
Is Doctor Doom in Avengers: Endgame Encore?
Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to play Victor von Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, but Marvel has not officially confirmed his appearance in Endgame Encore.
The theory is believable because Joe Russo has said the added footage is set within the Doomsday narrative and is designed to bridge the two Avengers movies. That makes Doctor Doom one possible subject, but it does not prove he is the character shown.
Another popular theory claims the metal hammering heard after Endgame’s credits could be reinterpreted as Doom forging his mask. That sound has long served as a callback to Tony Stark constructing the Mark I armor, so any new Doom meaning would be a major change. Marvel has not confirmed this theory.
Did Marvel change the ending of Avengers: Endgame?
There is no confirmation that Tony Stark’s sacrifice, Steve Rogers’ final journey or the Avengers’ victory over Thanos has been altered. “Special end tag” most likely means new material placed after the movie rather than a replacement for its emotional conclusion.
