A major rift has emerged within the Congress party following tributes paid to former leader Sajjan Kumar. Congress leader Deepender Hooda described Sajjan Kumar as a role model and an inspiration, praising his contribution to Delhi's development and his connection with the public. Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi strongly rejected the statement, alleging that Sajjan Kumar conspired to get Sikhs killed and stating that anyone calling him a role model must mind their language. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also distanced the state unit from the remarks, stating Deepender Hooda's comments represent his personal view.
