Josef Gregory Mahoney, Professor of Politics and International Relations at East China Normal University, spoke to CGTN Europe about Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visits to Indonesia and South Korea. He discussed how the trip reflects China’s efforts to strengthen ties with its Southeast and Northeast Asian neighbours. In Indonesia, Wang agreed to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, highlighting the potential of the China-Indonesia partnership. In South Korea, Wang Yi called for stronger economic ties and greater strategic trust, signalling a positive step towards stability in Northeast Asia. Mahoney said the visits underscore China’s broader push for stable and constructive relations with neighbouring countries.
