"Haruichiban" is a very strong wind early in spring. The wind blows from February throuth March. It is the year of first wind to blow from the Pacific Ocean to the Japan sea. The Japanese wind "Haruichiban" originated here on Iki Island, so this monument was constructed in recognition of its place of origin. "haruichiban" also means "spring has come".
