Nepal is appealing for specialist international assistance to reach people believed to be trapped in tunnels of hydropower projects after a glacier collapse on Aug 26 triggered devastating floods along its Himalayan border with China.
Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said an 11-member Indian technical reconnaissance team for tunnel rescue had been mobilised and a Chinese tunnel rescue team was expected to arrive soon, with foreign help sought for opening tunnels, locating survivors, forensic and DNA analysis, and mortuary support.
