Amarone is a more premium category of dry, hefty italian red wines that comes from the Valpolicella area in the province of Verona. These wines tend to command a fairly high price tag and are well respected for their excellence. Because of the high price tag though, Amarone often gets passed up for wines for wines with more name recognition such as those from Bordeaux. This is unfortunate because of what this wine can bring to the table. If you are looking for a more premium bottle for a special occasion, I would push you to consider amarone. This particular bottle rolls in at $55 locally, but can be found online for $30-40, which makes it a value-driven/entry-level amarone which means it a great way to try it without having to shell out $100 on something you've never had before.
