Blending cabaret, hip-hop, rock, and soul, Janelle Monae is most admired by fans for her artistic integrity and creativity. In 2007 she released an EP entitled The Chase, a concept piece revolving around a character named Cindi Mayweather and the year 2179. WinkBall video reporters were there to ask fans about her musical style which has been compared to artists such as; Lady Gaga, Annie Lennox and Lauryn Hill and her influences, including Michael Jackson, Prince, OutKast, Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix. We also found out why the love her music and what they thought of her performance. To date she has won three awards including the Vanguard Award at the ASCAP Awards, the Centric Award at the Soul Train Awards and the Best R&B/Pop Album of 2010 at the Best of the Booth Award.
