A landslide has killed 18 people in northwest China and injured two others. The landslide, which buried 12 houses, was caused by recent heavy rain in Sha'anxi Province. More rain is forecast for the area in the next 24 hours.
Torrential rain caused a landslide on Tuesday that left 18 people dead and two others injured in northwest China.
The landslide occurred on Tuesday morning, washing down about 17,000 cubic feet of mud and rock, burying 12 houses in Leuyang County, Sha'anxi Province.
Twenty people were found buried, 18 of them dead. The two survivors were taken to hospital with injuries.
The blocked No. 309 Provincial Highway was reopened to traffic on Wednesday morning.
The landslide was triggered by recent heavy rain in Sha'anxi Province that dumped up to four inches of water in some counties. More heavy rain is forecast in the next 24 hours in the southern part of the province.
